What is NDA(National Defence Academy)?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services Academy of the Indian Armed Forces. NDA(National Defence Academy) is a national institute for training selected young men for officer level entry into the Armed forces of India. Apart from an eminent career, the other reasons that induce students to join the NDA are love and respect for the Nation.  The training at NDA is rigorous. The training at NDA is broken into 6 terms and the total duration of training is 3 years. Once their training is concluded, the candidates are awarded their bachelor’s degree at the passing out parade of NDA Coaching in Chandigarh. How to Apply for NDA Written Exam?

  • UPSC has provided the NDA 2020 application form through online mode.
  • The registration form comprises of 2 parts: Part 1 and Part 2
  • Candidates have to provide their general details in Part 1.
  • In part 2 candidates have to select their exam, pay the application fee upload the scanned images of photograph and signature.
  • No correction facility provided after the final submission of UPSC NDA application form.

Points to remember before Applying NDA Exam:-

  • Only unmarried males between the age of 16.5 to 19.5 can apply.
  • Their marital status should be unmarried
  • Cleared or appearing (10+2) with science stream
  • This NDA Exam is conducted 2 time a year, these are known as NDA I in April and NDA II in September.

The written test conducted by UPSC will consist of objective questions based on Maths and general ability. After clearing the test one has to go through a 5 day interview process with the State Selection Board for evaluation of the potentialities of officers(Intelligence and Personality Test). Besides, the interview, one has to go through the intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess the basic intelligence. After the test, one has to undergo the Medical test.

After training a candidate can choose either a technical or a non-technical field of specialization, as per his preference. Growth opportunities both in terms of knowledge and finances are unlimited. Educational Qualifications:-

Army Wing of National Defence Academy: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university.

Air Force and Naval Wing of National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy : 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them.

They are required to submit proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent exam by the prescribed date and no request for extending this date will be entertained on the grounds of late conduct of Board/University Examination, delay in declaration of results or any other ground whatsoever.

Selection Process for NDA:-

NDA exam is conducted twice a year by UPSC in the month of April and September. Candidates have to first qualify the written test with minimum qualifying marks and then appear for the SSB interview round.

NDA Written Exam Pattern 2020:-

NDA Exam is a mixture of 2 Different Paper of 900 Marks generally known as Paper-1 for Math Portion & Paper-2 for General ability Portion. Paper 1 holds the Mathematics Part of +1 & +2 level for which time limit is only 2.5 hours & it contains 300 marks. Paper -2 holds the General Ability Test & has the same time limit of 2.5 hours but it consists of 600 marks. Paper 2 consists of General Knowledge 400 Marks and General English 200 Marks. Combining these both papers written exam carries 900 marks in total.

Paper -1: Mathematics Syllabus: This Portion consists of chapters like Algebra, Trigonometry, Probability, Matrices & Determinants, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus &, etc.

Paper -2: General Ability: This Portion Consists of English & General Knowledge. English: The question paper in English is to judge the candidate’s ability to understand English. The syllabus includes various parts like Grammar and usage, vocabulary, comprehension to test a candidate’s proficiency in English. General Knowledge: This Section will cover the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography, and Current Events.
