What is National Defence Academy?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services Academy of the Indian Armed Forces. NDA(National Defence Academy) is a national institute for training selected young men for officer level entry into the Armed forces of India. Apart from an eminent career, the other reasons that induce students to join the NDA is love and respect for the Nation.  The training at NDA is rigorous. The training at NDA is broken into 6 terms and the total duration of training is 3 years. 1. The subjects of the written examination, number of questions, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject are as follows.

How to Apply for NDA Written Exam?

  • UPSC has provided the NDA – 1 application form through online mode.
  • The registration form comprises of 2 parts: Part 1 and Part 2
  • Candidates have to provide their general details in Part 1.
  • In part 2 candidates have to select their exam, pay the application fee upload the scanned images of photograph and signature.
  • No correction facility provided after the final submission of UPSC NDA application form.

Points to remember before Applying NDA Exam:-

  • Only unmarried males between the age of 16.5 to 19.5 can apply.
  • Their marital status should be unmarried
  • Cleared or appearing (10+2) with science stream
  • This NDA Exam is conducted 2 time a year, these are known as NDA I in April and NDA II in September.

The written test conducted by UPSC will consist of objective questions based on Maths and general ability. After clearing the test one has to go through a five day interview process with the State Selection Board for evaluation of the potentialities of officers(Intelligence and Personality Test). Besides, the interview, one has to go through the intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess the basic intelligence. After the test, one has to undergo the Medical test.

After training a candidate can choose either a technical or a non-technical field of specialization, as per his preference. Growth opportunities both in terms of knowledge and finances are unlimited. Even during the service and after retirement, individuals get to enjoy exclusive facilities and tax exemptions. This job has a lot of advantages during the service as well after retirement. Educational Qualifications :-

Army Wing of National Defence Academy: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university.

Air Force and Naval Wing of National Defence Academy and 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy : 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the 12th class or equivalent examination and are allowed to appear in the UPSC examination should note that this is only a special concession given to them.

They are required to submit proof of passing the 12th class or equivalent exam by the prescribed date and no request for extending this date will be entertained on the grounds of late conduct of Board/University Examination, delay in declaration of results or any other ground whatsoever.

Selection Process for NDA & NA 2020 :-

The complete process of NDA is explained below: 

  • Filling the Application Form :- Interested candidates can fill NDA application form online by visiting NDA’s Official Website.  The application fee is Rs 100 which can be paid both online and offline. The Commission releases the list of rejected applicants, a few days after the closure of application process.
  • Release of Admit Card :- NDA admit card is released three weeks before the exam. The link to download the admit card will be available on the official website. Candidates can download the admit card by logging either with roll number or registration number.
  • Written Exam :- All the candidates who successfully register for the exam are required to appear for the written exam. The written exam comprises of two sections – Mathematics and General Ability Test. The test carries total 900 marks. Candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the written exam are called for SSB Interview.
  • Declaration of Result :- NDA result is declared online in two stages – written and final. First, the result for written exam is declared followed by the declaration of final result. The result is made available in PDF format. It displays the roll numbers of qualified candidates. The mark sheet of candidates is released after declaration of final result. Candidates need to secure NDA cut off 2020 separately in written exam and SSB Interview.
  • SSB Interview :- The SSB Interview is conducted for Intelligence and Personality Test. The test is conducted in two stages. All qualified candidates are put to stage 1 test on the first day of reporting at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Candidates qualifying the first stage are called for the second stage exam. Those who will qualify the second stage are required to submit certain documents.
  • Final Selection :- Candidates are finally selected for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA/NA based on their performance in written exam and SSB Interview. The final allocation will be done as per the number of vacancies subjected to candidate’s eligibility, medical fitness and merit-cum-preference. 

NDA Written Exam Pattern 2020

NDA Exam is a mixture of 2 Different Paper of 900 Marks generally known as Paper-1 for Math Portion & Paper-2 for General ability Portion. Paper 1 holds the Mathematics Part of +1 & +2 level for which time limit is only 2.5 hours & it contains 300 marks. Paper -2 holds the General Ability Test & has the same time limit of 2.5 hours but it consists of 600 marks. Paper 2 consists of General Knowledge 400 Marks and General English 200 Marks. Combining these both papers written exam carries 900 marks in total.
