  • Permanent Commission: Permanent Commissioned Officers get their training at either National Defence Academy Pune or Indian Military Academy Dehradun. These training are for job profiles that you are supposed to do till your retirement.
  • Short Service Commission: Under short service commission a candidate serves in the Army for an initial tenure of 10 years. After the completion of this tenure of 10 years, a candidate can opt for Permanent Commission. If he gets selected in Permanent Commission then he serves in the Army till retirement but if not then the candidate can serve Army for up-to 4 years for an extended term. They could also resign during this extendable 4 years.

Short Service Commission for Women (Under Technical & Non-technical Verticals)

For Candidates who want to appear for technical posts have to go through a different exam which is:

Short Service Commission (Technical)

  • Eligibility: BE or B.Tech
  • Age Limit For Men: 20 to 27 Years
  • Age Limit For Women: 19 to 25 Years

Once the candidate get through the exam he has to go through the following criterion Service Selection Board Exam, Interview, Physical Fitness & Medical Examination.

After selection, candidates are given 49 weeks training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. Thereafter, they will be commissioned for 10 years in Indian Army with extendable 4 years option.

The Candidate should have cleared UPSC, SSB, Physical Fitness & Medical Examination.

Indian Military Academy (IMA)

  • Eligibility: The Candidate need to have passed graduation with a decent percentage.
  • Age Limit For Men: 19 to 24 Years

The Candidate should have cleared UPSC, SSB, Physical Fitness & Medical Examination.

Exam for getting into Officers Training Academy OTA

Under this; candidates have to appear in a written exam, SSB interview and medical test. If the candidate is technical graduate; then he would be directly screened and selected by Army Headquarters. The pathway is short in this – SSB interview, Physical fitness test and medical examination. Once selected; candidates are given training for 49 weeks.
